Terms of Use
Effective October 20, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and John Allen (“we”, “us”), the maker of the Spurgeon HQ app and spurgeonapp.com (together, “Spurgeon HQ”). By using Spurgeon HQ you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
Who can use Spurgeon HQ
You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
Your account
You need an account to use the app. Give us accurate information, keep your password private, and let us know if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
The sermons and our content
Charles H. Spurgeon’s sermons and writings are in the public domain. Some of the texts come from Spurgeon Gems (spurgeongems.org) and are credited in the app. The scholar’s ratings, rankings and arrangement of topics, the artwork, the audio, the app’s design and software, and this website belong to us or to those who license them to us.
We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Spurgeon HQ for your own, non-commercial use. Please don’t copy, sell or republish the ratings, rankings, artwork or audio, collect content from Spurgeon HQ with automated tools, or take apart the app’s software.
AI features
The sermons are read aloud by an AI voice, made from the printed text. It may sometimes mispronounce a word or name. The AI sermon finder uses AI to suggest sermons for what you describe. Its suggestions can be imperfect, and they are not pastoral counselling or medical, legal or other professional advice. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line right away (in the United States, call or text 988).
Premium subscriptions
- Premium is sold through the App Store or Google Play and billed to your Apple or Google account. The price and length of each plan are shown in the app before you buy.
- A free trial, if offered, becomes a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple or Google account settings. Deleting the app or your Spurgeon HQ account does not cancel it.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.
- If we change a price, you will be told as Apple’s and Google’s rules require, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
Your notes, highlights and ratings
Your notes and highlights belong to you. You let us store and sync them so you can use them on your devices. The ratings you give sermons are combined with other readers’ ratings into the readers’ rating, which shows only averages and counts, never who rated.
Using Spurgeon HQ fairly
Don’t use Spurgeon HQ to break the law, don’t try to get into accounts or systems that aren’t yours, and don’t interfere with how Spurgeon HQ works for others.
Changes and ending
We may change or stop parts of Spurgeon HQ, and we may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. You can stop using Spurgeon HQ and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Disclaimers
Spurgeon HQ is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will always be available or free of errors, and we disclaim all implied warranties, including of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
Limit on our liability

Our total liability for any claim about Spurgeon HQ is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, except where the law where you live gives you rights that can’t be waived.
